Snow at my house last week

Last week at our house the snow started falling Saturday night after I got home from work and  continued falling thru Wednesday.  So on Sunday I quilted my mom-in-law, Connie’s quilt. She was given a quilt top years ago made by one of the family members in Missouri and needed it quilted. With two days home I was able to finish quilting it and added a binding. It turned out nice.

I also had time to put my 2011 block of the month together. I really like how it turned out.

I have had several of my customers ask me about my blog. Yes, I am serious. Yes, I’d like to blog on a regular basis. Yes, I do have exciting things going on in the shop. But, sometimes, most times I am tired and out of words by the time I sit down to blog.  I am going to PUSH myself and TRY to blog on a regular basis.

Right now I am smack dab in the middle of doing inventory which totally stifles my creativity. Luckily, my ladies bring creatitvity and inspiration to me.  Enjoy some of the show-n-tell that I have seen lately.

So I am back by somewhat popular demand.

I had read this before but a very wise friend of mine gave this to me at Christmas…

Many people walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints on your heart. To handle yourself, use your head, to handle others, use your heart. Anger is only one letter short of danger. If someone betrays you once, it is his fault, if he betrays you twice, it is your fault.Great minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.  He who loses money, loses much; he who loses a friend loses more; he who loses faith, loses all. Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art. Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself. There is no beginning or end. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that’s why we call it the present.

Hello fellow quilters. It has been a really long time since my last blog posting. I have spent a few months catching up with family members. Having the quilt shop is a wonderful thing for me, but it also takes a good amount of time. Since I purchased the shop I have had less time for my family. I love the shop, my customers and quilting, but I love my family even more. My shop is still for sale and because it hasn’t sold, I believe that this is where I am supposed to be. Now on to what’s happening…
October 21st-30th is our 5th Annual Southwest Washington Shop Hop. The fabric is gorgeous!!! My block is cute!!! I can’t wait to see all of you. The shop hop hours are 10-6 Monday-Saturday and 11-4 Sunday.

Eagle

This morning as I was driving across the Tilton River Bridge just outside of town, I looked down and there was an eagle fishing.  I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.  Sorry about the fuzzy picture; I think I need a new camera.

Speaking of beautiful sights…

Last week Arleen brought in her hand quilted  paper doll quilt for a great-granddaughter.  The doll clothes are backed with flannel so they can be put onto the dolls on the quilt. 

As you can see, we had fun with this quilt.

Carolyn's Quick Fix

A while ago, my customer/friend Carolyn came into Sugar ‘n Spice and asked for a quick fix.  Fabric fix of course. She picked up some Fandango charm packs and a Layer cake.  We picked out a pattern for her and home she went to get her fix.  This is the quilt she made.  Isn’t it beautiful!

This year has been another interesting and busy one for me.  It amazes me that I have had Sugar ‘n Spice for 5 years. Thank you so much for letting me serve you and for your wonderful support. As most of you know I am ready to move on to something new and wish to sell the shop.  I don’t know where this “new” thing will take me, but I am ready for the adventure.  Apparently, the adventure is not quite ready for me as I have not found a buyer for Sugar ‘n Spice.  I know there is someone out there just waiting for this opportunity. It has been a great business and I have made so many friends. Each day here is filled with interesting and inspiring visits and heaped with awesome show-n-tell.

The tree is decorated for  The Festival of Trees donation, the stockings are finished and given away, and the Peter Pan Quilt is, beautifully quilted by Sue Smith at Diamond Quiltworks, on display at the Roxy.  Yay!!! I still have some things to sew before Christmas.  I am making a quilt for my aunt to give her granddaughter for Christmas. It is a very fun quilt with lots of bright colors and of course lots of pink.  I plan to quilt it myself.  Today I quilted my fourth quilt.  I am getting better, it is a growth process and hence not so comfortable.

Chance drawing tickets for the tinkerbell quilt above are available at the Art Gallery, Sugar n Spice and a few shops around town. Proceeds will help fund our children’s theater projects. 

So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land.
Peter Pan

I just finished my quilt and it is GORGEOUS!!!  I like pink and for years I dreamed of having a pink and gray master bedroom and bathroom.  The pink and gray is no longer my most favorite, but this fabric, this quilt is beautiful.  I hope you will like it, too.  I am not showing a picture of the quilt here, because I can’t wait to see you. You’ll need to come to the shop to see it.  I really am very happy with how it turned out.  I had a plan for setting the 20 blocks, but that didn’t work out.  Yesterday I had all of the blocks finished when my friend Kim came in and helped- no chose the setting and border fabrics.  Thanks so much Kim.  I was a bit lost and discouraged, you lifted me up.
