Counting Blessings

Today, I find it very difficult to focus on the good things that happened this year.  I am haunted by those things that were not so good or  projects left unfinished.  It is time to let go and move on.

I am very blessed by great friends and I have a lot of friends. You bring me cool, yummy, beautiful, spritual, supportive gifts.  I am truly blessed!  I have a husband who enjoys spending time with me and would like to spend more time together. I have family members who care deeply about me. We built our own house this summer with lots of help from family and friends.  We started the house in April and finished in September. Our little house is cozy and peaceful.  We added two new members to the household recently.  Hunter and UB are our kittens.  My DH, Tom, and I wonder why we decided to get kittens in the middle of winter in this very small house, but we did.  Here is a picture of UB. Yes, that is him sleeping under the Christmas Tree.

What am I doing today?  I just finished my last 2009 Christmas present.  This is one of those haunting projects.  I planned to have it done before Christmas.  You know what they say about planning.

Time to start block of the month…

” You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.  Do not complain. Make every effort to change things you do not like. If you cannot make a change, change the way you have been thinking. You might find a new solution.

Never whine. Whinning lets a brute know that a victim is in the neighborhood.

Be certain that you do not die without having done something wonderful for humanity. ”   Letter to my Daughter by Maya Angelou

A Merry Christmas Sock Monkey

My quilter friend Della knows my sock monkey story.  It goes like this… My grandma made sock monkeys for all the grandkids, but me.  I know she loved me.  It wasn’t that.  She either got tired of making them, thought I already had one or moved on to a new project.  Anyway,  I have always had a bit of a sore spot about sock monkeys.  Well, Della found a huge sock monkey and gave him to me today.  He is very cute and WAY too big for my tiny house, but he looks great here at the shop.  I just love him and laugh every time I look at him.   Here he is:

I’m waiting for the big warm up

Everything is frozen solid, even my duck in the pond, even the pond.  Where are the fish? I can’t even see them. I’m sure they are fine .  They have lived through two winters in the pond.

Waterfalls are frozen.  The rivers are freezing and still I hear that it is warming up.  This morning when I drove to work the temperature was 23 degrees.  Yesterday it was 13 degrees.  Not enough of a warm-up, yet.

Looking outside now,  it looks like snow.  I am sure it’s coming.  I can’t wait to get home and cozy up next to the fire.  Have a great weekend and keep warm.

It’s begining to look a bit like Christmas

Quilter friend, Peggy, brought in her Christmas Quilt Top today.  It is very cute, made from a Thimbleberries’ pattern she bought here at Sugar ‘n Spice.

I hope you are getting your project s all finished.  If you still a have a couple more projects you’d like to finish after the first of the year, join us at the shop the second Saturday each month from10-4 or 5 and work on those nagging projects.  Let’s get those things finished so we can start new ones,.

Wow, is it really that time of year?

Where does the time go?  For me when I think back on this year, I probably won’t be able to remember much about it.  2009… Oh, yes,  the year we built the house.  Thanks for your patience and support during my crazy year.  Thanks also for your help with Christmas decorations for the Fire Mountain Arts Council donation tree.  The tree looks great.  It is located in the gallery.  Here is a picture, but a picture doesn’t really show it off.  Be sure to go see it.
